28/06/2009 - Le Tour 2009 Contenders - Andy Schleck
The Tour de France 2009 starts in Monaco on the 4th July. We continue our build up to the start of the greatest cycle race in the world with a look at the contenders for this year's race.
Andy Schleck
Team: Saxo Bank
Country: Luxembourg
Age: 24
Andy Schleck is by far the most promising talent in the pro peleton.
Last year, his fate was sealed by teammates. In the final week, brother Frank was in yellow, so Andy´s job was to support Frank. Then eventual winner Carlos Sastre took over the yellow jersey, so Andy was again tied to team orders.
This year, Sastre is with the Cervelo TestTeam. Saxo Bank will be looking to one of the Schleck brothers to lead the team. On experience and results, Frank is the natural leader. However, Andy Schleck is the more talented of the two, and most likely to achieve success in the future.
Andy is a natural born climber, but such is his dedication and talent, he more than gets by in the time trial and it´s this double whammy that makes him more of a potential tour winner than Frank.
